Today the kids and I hopped Sound Transit and headed downtown. Our destination: Safeco Field. The occasion: the final game in a three-game series between the Mariners and the Angels. It also happened to be the final game in a three-game long weekend celebration of newly-minted Hall of Famer Ken Griffey, Jr. On Saturday the M’s retired his number: today it was Ken Griffey Jr. jersey giveaway.
We weren’t three of the first 20,000 fans so we didn’t get three, but we’ll survive.
The day turned out great. The M’s beat the Angels 3-1 to secure a three-game sweep of their division rivals. Angels great Mike Trout struck out four times, but did rob Leonys Martin of a grand slam. The M’s are now 57-53 — in second place and seven games out of first.
