Last night I led the Zeeks Pizza Penguins in an unofficial tee ball practice.
It was our third unofficial practice this season, the “unofficial” part being the consequence of a very-delayed release of our “official” practice schedule.
That we had a practice isn’t what made the hour memorable.
What made it so fun was my introduction of burpees to the 5-6 year old band. First, as a warmup; second as a penalty for fundamentally incorrect fielding; and finally as a penalty for players who failed to hustle to first base after making contact with the tee-propped ball.
I figured some parents might take issue with my methods — but I was wrong. The only e-mails I received from parents were supportive, including one from a dad that had me laughing out loud:
