Today I headed down to the M’s game for my once-or-twice-a-year appearance at Safeco Field. I joined my old Kennedy buddy Jay Tando, old West Seattle buddy Nick Missler, and Tim Caviezel, Jesus‘ 6’8″ “little” bro.

A view from our 300-level seats, which we vacated after the third inning.

We picked the right game.

The M’s and Blue Jays played basically a snoozefest until the bottom of the 9th, when the M’s suddenly woke up. Jays reliever Kevin Gregg couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn, and before we knew it a 3-1 game was suddenly 3-2 with two men on and one out.

And then Ken Griffey, Jr. came to the plate.

Junior came up HUGE.

The guy who literally saved baseball in Seattle lined a double to right field to drive in two and win the game 4-3.

The place went nuts. And so did we.

This afternoon Steven and I joined Roy, Katie and Claire Price for an afternoon out at Safeco Field. The M’s beat Mike Scioscia’s California/Anaheim/Los Angeles Angels 3-0. (More.) Felix Hernandez pitched eight innings of shutout ball to beat Scott Kazmir, who made his debut with the Angels after a trade from the Tampa Bay Rays.

Regrettably the Prices had to leave after the fourth inning — Roy had a poorly-timed meeting — but we snapped a few pics beforehand:
