Casa de Jenkins in a winter wonderland.

This morning the Jenkins family awoke to Seattle’s first snow of 2012.

And it wasn’t an insignificant amount. At least it wasn’t after the second deluge stopped in the afternoon.

The family made two ventures into the winter wonderland, the first in the morning, the second in the afternoon when we joined Norman and Sofia for some sledding on the north side of Laurelhurst Park, the kids’ first-ever sledding adventures.

Stopping for photos.

Us too.

Little did Finn know that he'd be the object of his sister's snowballs.

The weatherman says more snow is on the way. Can’t wait.

A few more pics and videos:

Reese ran out of gas toward afternoon's end.

Finn’s First Soccer

This morning Finn attended his first-ever soccer practice. First-ever practice of any kind, really. Reese, too, re-started her soccer career.

Finn really seemed to get the hang of it and his sister, who couldn’t have cared less about soccer last time, seemed to genuinely enjoy it this ‘go round.

Reese: back and better than ever on the soccer field.

Christmas Day finally arrived yesterday. Good times were had by all.

We started the day around 9 am with lots of presents. Santa Claus must have gone into debt, because the presents were many:

I’d call it an embarrassment of riches — except we’re not rich.

The kids with, um, Santa.

Finn modeling his best present IMHO.

At least Rhonda was looking at the camera ...

Later that morning the family put together the first-ever Jenkins family jigsaw puzzle:

The Jenkins family puzzle proved to be a big hit.

Later that afternoon the Beckers, Norman and Benezra joined us for a little holiday cheer.

Reese and the Becker girls.

The fellas.

Can't imagine how this conversation went.

Isabel snapped this pic - the camera seemed about as big as the photographer.

Isabel reading one of the new additions to Reese's growing library.

Unfortunately the ever-present picture man wasn’t in high gear this day, so we didn’t snap a lot of pics.

First there was Facebook. Then fantasy golf. Yesterday I added a Casio EX-FS10 digital camera to my collection of of time wasters.

As if I needed another one.

Benezra and I got started today with a late-afternoon filming session at the UW driving range. Turns out the reason I’m still only a 4.3 is that, in addition to having the touch of a stonemason around the greens, I have a bit of a problem with my swing. Seems I stand up:

and

Have to work on that to get to my goal:

Can’t say the addition of a point and shoot will be an all bad addition to the Jenkins fam. No doubt I’ll snap many more pics now that I have a camera I can lug around in my pocket. But I’ll be truthful — the above swingshots won’t be the only ones I take in the months and years ahead.

Now, off to the range again to work on this standing up problem.

My dear friend Suzi Kelly from New Jersey sent me these as Christmas gifts. Pretty, pretty, pretty darn cool.

This morning I joined Mike Waldner and Joel Aro for the Polar Bear Plunge over on Alki Beach in West Seattle (video I West Seattle Herald article).

It was certainly polar.

Surveying the terrain.

The three of us joined about one hundred or so other brave souls for a sprint into the water at about 10 am. I’m guessing it was about thirty-five degrees outside and about forty-five in the water. We were all in the water for roughly a minute, which was a very long minute if I do say so. We all got dunked, too.

A few pics:

Before ...

during ...

after.

Our Seattle Team teammates Tony Secretario and Jeff Benezra joined us for moral support. Tony brought his dog, Jeff his nice leather coat, to prevent the surprise throw in.

I don't know much Joel paid for that coat, but $1 was too much.

Finn and Reese had good fun playing on the beach after breakfast.

Benezra kept his coat on lest he get thrown in.

Beatrice, Georgio and Victoria, the Moeller's friends from Rome, Italy.

The Moellers: Eli will get wet in '12.
