For about the last year I’ve been predicting we might be in store for another American Civil War. By “predict,” I mean that the chances are not good or even likely, but they aren’t Earth-will-be-hit-by-an-asteroid remote, either. My reasoning: now that people are free to choose their versions of reality via the daily news, there is zero chance that we’ll ever be united again. That, coupled with the slow creep of political correctness, a loss of confidence in our voting process and the politicians it yields, and a coming loss of civil liberties that will make President Bush look like a libertarian, and I think we may be headed for tough times. I’d say 200:1 that we split within a generation.
Seems I’m not the only one.
Bloomberg reported today that a Russian professor is predicting that the U.S. will split into six different regions as a result of the economic collapse.
I hope not, but if someone wants to give me 200:1, I’ll take it.
