Day Out at Discovery

Today marked the second day in a row of 80+ degree weather in the Emerald City, so it was off to the beach we went. The beach at Discovery Park, specifically. I’ve long said that said park and said beach are among the best — and most underutilized — in all of Seattle, and today did not disappoint. Check out the view on the walk in:

Only in Seattle . . .

Rhonda, Ian, Jonathan, Norman, Mito and I did the brief hike from the south parking lot to the beach, where we lunched on fruit salad and CPK. (Reese and Sophia were along for said hike, but being as though the former does not yet walk and the latter’s legs are shorter than my attention span, they spent a fair bit of time being carried by their dads.)

Among the highlights:

  • I made $50 when Norman bet I couldn’t swim out to a log about 30 yards off shore and return it — without using my hands. Water was cold, no doubt, but $50 is $50.

Early leader for Picture of the Year.

    That is one valuable log.

  • Seeing Reese try to nibble on her bottle without mom freaking out that she might eat sand. IMHO: best way to make sure they don’t eat sand in the future is to let them eat sand now.

"Mom, this stuff ain't so bad."

  • Ian, Norman and I partook (word?) in a little game of Who Can Hit the Log First with a Rock. $1 a toss. I won all three. I won’t hold my breadth waiting for my opponents to pay up.
  • The lowlights:

  • Given a chance to win $10 for jumping off a log and swimming 10 feet to shore, Jonathan chickened out.
  • No fewer than three couples’ cancellations. If we can ever get everyone to come out on the same day, I’ll really make some dough.
  • All and all one of those Days We Live For. Great Food, Family and Friends.
